Faith over Fear: Fortunate's Story

When life presents us with challenges and uncertainty, fear can often take hold. We walk with many women going through uncertain times, and in those difficult moments, Heal Ministries offers women the support and hope they need. Fortunate faced tremendous hardships, yet she emerged stronger and more empowered than ever before.

Fortunate, the eldest of six, always pushed herself to excel. With her parents' support, she reached secondary school, where the most important moment of her life occurred--she accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord of her life. That decision transformed everything, as she not only sought God, but also encouraged her friends to do the same.

With her faith and hope fixed on Jesus, she started her job hunt after finishing school. Employment opportunities are limited, especially for women, but Fortunate trusted the Lord. She found a job as a cashier in a canteen; however, she quickly realized that the daily cost of transportation was greater than her daily pay. She needed something that would pay the bills.

Unshaken, she continued looking. She heard from a friend about Heal Ministries, and she interviewed to be a security guard for the James Place. To her great joy, she was hired!

One thing about first born daughters is they often can't help the desire to exceed and excel in everything. Fortunate began taking classes on the weekends to get her information, communication, and technology diploma. During her time at school, she was promoted to the childcare department. Every day she brought her steady faith, organizational competency, and passion for preaching the gospel, and our childcare department was so much better for it.

In March 2020, everything changed. COVID-19 lockdowns caused her husband to lose his job just as they were expecting their first baby. Many in this situation would be paralyzed by fear, but Fortunate had a steady job with Heal Ministries and a steady faith in Jesus. They started a small eatery to support their growing family, and Fortunate continued working in childcare while assisting with the restaurant. Recognizing her administrative skills, we promoted Fortunate to Administrative Assistant in 2021 upon her graduation from college.

Just one year after the world shut down and everything seemed hopeless--her husband's job loss, a baby on the way, fear in every corner--her situation had completely turned around for good. With her hope fixed on Jesus and the stability and mentorship provided by Heal Ministries, she continued to rise. Now, she empowers and disciples other women!
